Today’s theme is saudade, a concept with no direct translation into English, one that describes a vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist, for something other than the present, a turning towards the past or towards the future; not an active discontent or poignant sadness but an indolent dreaming wistfulness.
I went to the Treasure Island Flea Market this weekend. The view from the island is like no other, and there are nice (and not as nice) shops set up, with the strange backdrop of these bombed-out buildings. It was great.
I just signed a petition to Malia Cohen, Scott Weiner, Jane Kim, and SF Mayor Ed Lee: Stop the SFDC Historic Landmark status change. We need your help in preserving the San Francisco Design Center for the design community. The building owners have applied for Historic Landmark status in order to convert 500,000 square feet of PDR space into office space, AKA Tech Space. The only problem is the SFDC Showplace is 90% full of occupants.
